Tiny Bit Studio

Get the tiny bits right.

Tiny Bit Studio makes apps for iPhone and iPad. Every sheet, figure and haptic in them is a decision, not a default.

Petit à petit, l’oiseau fait son nid.

  • Real material. Podcasts, with search built in. YouTube videos, where YouTube allows. Your own videos from Photos, and video or audio files from Files.
  • Hear the difference. Turn on Record Attempts and Lark plays each try back to you, just before the original plays again.
  • Ask what it means. With Apple Intelligence, tap the bubble beside a sentence for its meaning and a note or two, written on your device.
  • What syncs. iCloud syncs your cards, progress and practice days. Media files, transcripts and recordings stay on the device.

On the App Store

Kozeni

小銭, Japanese for small change

A private expense and income tracker. Log what you spend, see where it goes, and keep a budget. No subscription, no account, no ads.

  • Log an entry in a few taps. A clean keypad, a category, and a note if you want. Recurring entries add themselves when you open Kozeni on the day they’re due.
  • See where it goes. Charts by week, month or year. Tap a point or a category to reach the entries behind it.
  • Keep a budget. Weekly, monthly or yearly, for one category or for everything, with what’s used and what’s left.
  • Private by default. Your data stays on your devices and syncs through your own iCloud. There’s no server of ours to send it to.

In development

Michi

道, Japanese for road

Plan a trip with the people you’re going with.

A work in progress
  • A stamp for every trip. Each trip is a stamp in your album, printed in its own ink and postmarked when the trip is over.
  • The plan, as a brochure. Open a stamp to see the trip day by day, its stops on a map with the route between them.
  • Plan it together. Invite the people you’re going with and edit the same plan. It’s shared through iCloud, with no server of ours in between.
  • Photos where they happened. Once you’ve been to a stop, add your photos to it, and everyone on the trip sees them there.

Let the space do the dividing.

Commit message, Lark

This page is laid out the same way: no rules between sections, only room. Lark’s design notes put it more bluntly: a divider is “an ornament doing the job of the room it takes up.”

Most of the work is like that. Small, exact changes, each described in one plain sentence. On their own they are hard to see. Together they are the app. Hence the name.

From the workbench

  • Kozeni: Take an amount the way a person gives one
  • Lark: Play a sentence out to its last consonant
  • Kozeni: Stop two devices logging the same recurring occurrence twice
  • Lark: Transcribe what’s spoken, not what’s subtitled
  • Kozeni: Hold every page’s content to three text sizes
  • Lark: Offer ten languages, not thirty accents
  • Kozeni: Drop the settings hero’s fun messages for a plain thank-you
  • Lark: Say “days” once, not four times
  • Kozeni: Give the highlights something period-specific to say
  • Lark: Keep the card at full strength under a finger
  • Kozeni: Let a hero reach the edges of its page and no further
  • Lark: Lead with the figure, not the question

…and a few hundred more.
